While it is fascinating to hear about the most famous entrepreneurs out there, I think the stories of everyday people achieving success in their own business are just as interesting. These people achieve a certain flexibility in their life and get to work on things they are passionate about. In my opinion, they also tend to be more satisfied and in generally happier than people who work as employees of a company. Financial independence is another benefit.
One case I really like is that of a friend who grew tired of her 9-to-5 so she started a business to capitalize on her bookkeeping skills. She helps other small businesses and non-profits with their accounting needs and during tax season she does home tax prep for individuals. This has grown to provide enough imcome for her that she has been able to quit her traditional job and work from home. She realized what skills she had and how to leverage them to achieve her goal: a more satisfying career and a more flexible schedule to be able to spend time with her family.
I think the key is for people to realize that they can change their life through their business. Many are too scared to follow through on their dreams, but those who do find that the reward is worth it.
